Convenient Financial Services Now Available to Students, Tenants, Community

BUFFALO, NY… BankOnBuffalo held a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to celebrate the opening of the first SMART Center to be established in the Northland Central Building at 683 Northland Ave. in the Northland Beltline Corridor.

It is the 12th branch office for BankOnBuffalo in its five-year history and will provide convenient financial services access to students attending the Northland Workforce Training Center, as well as corporate and manufacturing tenants at Northland and the surrounding East Side community.

“BankOnBuffalo is fully committed to the future economic success of Buffalo and Western New York and to the Northland Beltline Corridor as a major contributor toward achieving that,” said Michael J. Noah, BankOnBuffalo president. “Our special hands-on approach to business and personal banking will benefit those participating in Northland Central activities and residing in the East Side neighborhoods.”

"BankOnBuffalo's commitment to a SMART banking center here in the Northland Central building, means next generation, electronic-focused banking options will be readily available to those on the growing Northland campus, as well as the residents of the Northland Corridor and Buffalo’s East Side," Mayor Byron W. Brown said. "I thank Mike Noah and BankOnBuffalo for their investment and partnership with the transformational Northland Corridor project and in supporting our effort to make the Northland campus a premier business, educational and tourism destination for the East Side and the City of Buffalo."

The Northland SMART Center will feature BankOnBuffalo’s new, state-of-the-art, highly interactive customer SMART Station that allows customers to use interactive video with a live bank representative to perform such transactions as deposits, withdrawals, and loan payments, cashing checks and checking on account balances and loan payoffs. These can also be conveniently conducted before and after regular banking hours.

The Northland branch office will have a Kids Zone where kid games can be accessed from a touch screen. The non-traditional interior design will provide for conversation areas, high top tables, coffee station, coin machine and 24/7 lockers for document pick up/drop off after regular hours.

The new branch office will enhance BankOnBuffalo’s community initiatives, to include providing customized credit, banking account and financial literacy programs. BankOnBuffalo’s first community responsibility officer, Darnell Haywood, and Crystal Morgan, BankOnBuffalo community office manager at the Northland branch, have been working on several Northland Workforce Training Center initiatives and other first-time community endeavors for the bank.

BankOnBuffalo is currently in a five-year $100,000 initiative with the Northland Workforce Training Center to provide tuition assistance and fund operational needs for the Center, which prepares and trains area residents seeking high-paying careers in advanced manufacturing and energy.

“As a community bank, it is all part of BankOnBuffalo’s belief in what the Northland Workforce Training Center can do for the economic benefit of Buffalo, Western New York and the entire East Side community,” Noah said.

A lease agreement was signed in April 2021 between BankOnBuffalo and the Buffalo Urban Development Corporation (BUDC) for the 1,325-square-foot space on the building’s first floor. The lease is for an initial term of 10 years with three five-year extensions.

BankOnBuffalo now operates 12 branch offices in Akron, Amherst, Buffalo, Clarence, Clarence Center, Lancaster, Niagara Falls, Orchard Park, Williamsville and Wilson, as well as a private banking and wealth management service.
