BUFFALO, N.Y. – BankOnBuffalo formally kicked off construction today of the first on-site bank branch at Northland Central that will serve tenants, East Side residents and students and staff from the Northland Workforce Training Center.
Now in its fifth year of operation, the Northland Workforce Training Center prepares and trains Western New Yorkers to be part of a skilled and diverse workforce seeking high-paying careers in advanced manufacturing and energy. BankOnBuffalo is currently in a five-year $100,000 initiative with the Northland Workforce Training Center to provide tuition assistance and fund operational needs for the Center.
The Northland branch, scheduled to open by early spring, will feature a SMART Banking Resource Center offering BankOnBuffalo’s new, state-of-the-art, highly-interactive customer SMART Station and Enhanced Teller Machine (ETM) that allows customers to use interactive video with a live teller to perform such transactions as making deposits, withdrawals, and loan payments, cashing checks and checking on account balances and loan payoffs. These can also be conveniently conducted before and after regular banking hours.
The Northland branch will also have a Kids Zone where kid games can be accessed from a touch screen. The non-traditional interior design will provide for conversation areas, high top tables, coffee station, coin machine and 24/7 lockers for document pick up after regular hours.
The new bank branch will enhance BankOnBuffalo’s community initiatives there, including providing customized credit, banking account and financial literacy programs. Overseeing the programs will be BankOnBuffalo’s first community responsibility officer, Darnell Haywood, who has been working on several Northland Workforce Training Center initiatives and other first-time community endeavors for the bank. Crystal Morgan has been appointed as the branch’s community office manager
