BankOnBuffalo announced today that it has taken the first steps to establish its fifth branch facility in Western New York by submitting notices to the appropriate banking regulatory agencies to establish a branch facility at 827 Hopkins Road in Amherst, N.Y.
The notices were submitted to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the New York State Department of Financial Services and the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities.
The new branch will become BankOnBuffalo’s fifth full-service branch since opening its first in February 2017 in downtown Buffalo’s Electric Tower. Other branches were subsequently opened in Orchard Park and Williamsville and a temporary branch in the Town of Wheatfield, Niagara County. A permanent Niagara County branch is slated to open in 2019 in the City of Niagara Falls.
BankOnBuffalo will be remodeling the former long-time banking facility on Hopkins Road to its specific customer specifications, including state-of-the-art interactive technology in customer services. The approximate 3,900-square-foot facility is already equipped with multiple drive-up banking lanes, which will be part of BankOnBuffalo’s operations there.
“The new branch will be a significant upgrade in serving both commercial and consumer banking customers who are looking for a highly personal and customized approach to fully addressing their financial needs and concerns,” said Martin T. Griffith, BankOnBuffalo president. “We are truly excited about this new opportunity for BankOnBuffalo and our future customers in the northtowns.”
Once banking regulatory approvals are received, an opening six months later is anticipated for the new Hopkins Road branch.
The site formerly operated as an HSBC branch until it was acquired by First Niagara in 2012. It then operated as a First Niagara branch from 2012 until the KeyBank acquisition of First Niagara Bank.
BankOnBuffalo is also currently in the process of locating its regional headquarters in downtown Buffalo through an expansion onto the historic seventh floor of the landmark Electric Tower. Renovation work is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
